coming soon: an honest interpretation of what should be happening

Fuck the NYT op/ed pt. 2

More sickening shit.

In an equally denial-ridden, pitiful attempt to mitigate the previous op/ed written by a worthless representative of the Israeli "mainstream," we get the spurious craptastic bulldore of the supposedly "distanced" and "nuanced" NYTimes position. Let's look at some of the key turns of phrase:

"The Americans have decided that a freeze is needed to show Palestinians and other Arabs that Israel’s conservative government is serious about peace."

"The Americans"-- not the Americans who have written the article-- have "decided" that a freeze is needed to "show" seriousness about peace. Why might this be?

Amazingly, astonishingly, this ENTIRE OP/ED NEGLECTS TO MENTION THAT IT IS PRECISELY THE SETTLEMENTS THAT ARE THE GREATEST AND MOST EGREGIOUS INSULT TO THE REST OF THE REGION-- not only an obstacle to peace, but as nefarious and destructive policy against peace as can be found.

"Less visibly, but we hope just as assertively, the administration is pressing the Palestinians and other Arab leaders to take concrete steps to demonstrate their commitment to a peace deal."

What sorts of steps? WHY DOES THE NEW YORK TIMES INSIST ON PRETENDING THAT BOTH SIDES ARE EQUAL? CAN THIS CHARADE BE CARRIED ANY FURTHER? WHY IS THE NYTIMES A BUNCH OF SHIT-SUCKING FUCKING ASSHOLES???????

"President Obama, a skilled communicator, has started a constructive dialogue with the Islamic world. Now he needs to explain to Israelis why freezing settlements and reviving peace talks is clearly in their interest."

Yes! Of course! All the shell-shocked war-brainwashed Israeli populace needs is for the freezing of settlements to be PROPERLY EXPLAINED, and then everything will be well!! Jesus Christ Obama, get off your ass and get on it! Less Bud Lite and more explaining!

The Beer Summit

I have to say, Skip Gates had an excellent line:

"When he’s not arresting you, Sergeant Crowley is a really likable guy.”

As to the beer:

The four drank out of beer mugs. Mr. Obama had a Bud Lite, Sergeant Crowley had Blue Moon, Professor Gates drank Sam Adams Light and Mr. Biden, who does not drink, had a Buckler nonalcoholic beer.

I have to give props to Sgt. Crowley for being the only attendee at the summit to choose a halfway decent beer--and a seasonally appropriate one at that.

As to Gates and President Obama, I have to say that, on account of their drinking lite beer, they are pussies.

And as to Obama drinking Bud Lite, I don't know which disappoints me more: that it's a pandering choice, meant to be conspicuously non-"elitist"; or that he actually enjoys drinking that tasteless carbonated piss.

Grrrrr

Summer heat. And now this asshole.

The unbelievable gall/obliviousness of this statement sums up the current crisis:

"Fourth, as far as most Israelis are concerned, Mr. Obama has made a mistake in focusing on a settlement freeze. For starters, mainstream Israelis rarely have anything to do with the settlements; many have no idea where they are, even when they’re a half-hour’s drive from Tel Aviv."

You can't have it both ways. You want to be recognized before the global community and treated like a mature country with some semblance of self-awareness, yet when it comes to problems/crimes taking place A HALF HOUR from where "mainstream" (whatever that means) citizens live, it's a Who Me? situation.

This op/ed cheats between two totally irreconcilable perspectives. One is the notion that Obama should somehow connect to Israelis by giving them carrots and responding to what they think-- i.e. their amazing and willful ignorance of their own country's human rights abuses-- because perhaps Obama really does want Israel to do what is best for it. The other perspective is that there is in fact some sort of truth to what Israelis think about their country-- and a preexisting sense that Obama does not agree with them and is thus an enemy or anti-semite.

It is clear from this accidental confession that Israel is in the saddest of states, perhaps an all-time rock-bottom. This leads me to conclude that Obama's freeze-out has been, without doubt, the right approach.
